Date: Nov 08, 2011 A Veteran's Take On The Offseason
NWBL recently had the chance to sit down with NWBL veteran Adam Skurat to discuss his thoughts on 2011 and the upcoming 2012 season. Skurat began talking about the league and the direction it is heading in. "2011 has marked a time of change for the NWBL. It's a transition period where the league is still trying to figure how exactly to handle its new-found national popularity and exposure. Some ideas have worked, others haven't, and the verdict is still out on some decisions that have been made; but overall, the league is continuing to move in a positive direction." Skurat then dove right into the what makes the Rapids tick, what works and doesn't work, and how the Rapids can survive the NWBL in 2011. "This is absolutely a parallel to the Rapids past couple of seasons as well. The foundation is there, everything works; there's just that little something special, that spark, an X-factor if you will, that's needed to lead this team to greatness. Talent-wise, it's hard to find a group of people this good. Anyone can play anywhere, and we know how to win. We just need to come through a little more often in clutch situations. This is why even though it's becoming tougher and tougher to do with each passing year, I'm predicting that the Rapids will win the 2012 championship and restore its status as one of the best teams in the nation, if not the best." "I will say this though: The Captains are gonna give us trouble. They are really good, and we all saw just how good they can be this year. However, they don't have the element of surprise that comes with being a new team anymore. For once the target isn't on the Rapids' backs, but the Captains'. This should create a new and interesting league dynamic. Long story short, it's gonna be a fun year." Click here to go back to news articles |
